Notes
Riot Games Support, “Age Verification” (31 May 2026, read 18 October 2026): “Some regions may require age verification to play Riot games. If that's the case, you'll be prompted to prove your age through a variety of means before you can continue playing. If you're an underage player, your parent/guardian will instead have to go through the process, after which they can guide your online play through the Parent Portal.” “If you're too young to play our games without parental consent (the exact age varies by region), you will be required to submit your parent or guardian's email to get their approval”. “In some regions, adults and parents of underage players must verify their age before playing or choosing settings for their child's play. In the US this process is completely optional, and underage player accounts aren't blocked or limited in any way if the parents don’t verify their account.” “To prove that you are an adult, you must submit information like a credit card or government ID that will be processed through Kids Web Services (KWS), a third-party service. Don't worry—Riot doesn't store or access any of this personal information, it's only used by KWS to confirm you're an adult.” Riot’s Parent Portal page (1 June 2026): “All minors under the legal age in regulated regions are required to receive consent from a parent or guardian to create or continue playing on an account. The parent or guardian must complete the steps listed above to prove they're of legal age.” “New accounts identified as minors are required to add a parent's email to play and access our services.” Riot’s Terms of Service (last modified 1 December 2024), clause 1.1: “To create an account and use the Riot Services, you must: (i) be an adult; (ii) be an emancipated minor; or (iii) have valid parent or legal guardian consent to be bound by these Terms.” Riot’s parents FAQ (28 May 2026): “Your child must be the minimum required age for your region (for example, the age of eligibility under GDPR or other region-specific rules).”

Quoted from kidswebservices.com, dated 10 September 2026; checked 18 October 2026. Held by the vendor. Period as stated: Verified status kept against a hashed email address; KWS: “we never store the verification details (e.g. your card details) themselves”; other personal information “for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for”.

Notes: Riot: “For parents/guardians in particular, the link sent to you via email will bring you to the Parent Portal to begin the parent verification and approval process.” “Once verified, you'll be prompted to read and accept our Terms of Use and Privacy Notice as a last step.” The Parent Portal then offers game access, friends list, chat, message history, playtime and purchase limits (the last two “Does not apply to the US”). What you will see

What happens
In regions where Riot requires it, you are prompted to prove your age before you can keep playing. An under-age player enters a parent’s or guardian’s email; the parent follows an emailed link to the Parent Portal and verifies with a credit card or government ID handled by Kids Web Services, then accepts Riot’s Terms of Use and Privacy Notice and can set game access, chat, playtime and spending controls. A player whose parent has disabled a game sees “Access to your account is paused”.
How long it takes
Not stated by the service.
If you decline
Riot: “Your account will remain frozen until you turn 18, at which point you will no longer need consent but will still have to verify your own age.” and “all of your items, cosmetics, progress, etc. will be preserved until you either receive consent from your parents or come of age.” In the US, Riot says, the process is optional.
