About UK Age Check Index

An independent, UK-built answer to a question nobody else answers in one place: which online services check your age, how, through which vendor, and what they say they keep.

Why it exists

Since July 2025, UK users have been asked to scan their face, upload an ID or hand over a card number to see content on Reddit, Discord, Bluesky, Spotify, Xbox, PlayStation, Roblox and dozens more. Ofcom counted more than 69 million checks in the second half of 2025 across 32 services, and redacted the names. Every service explains its own check in its own words, in its own help centre, and the same vendor's retention promise is worded differently by each service that deploys it. The only places listing services side by side were articles written to sell VPNs.

This register collects the published facts, one row per service, quotes the retention wording with its URL and the date it was read, sets the vendor's own policy beside each deployer's statement, and records every change with its source.

What it does not do

It does not score, rate or recommend. It carries nothing about avoiding a check: no VPN links, comparisons or codes, and no instructions. It publishes no user comments or reviews. It names companies and policies, not people.

This directory publishes information about companies, not individuals. It does not process personal data of people who verify their age.

Who runs it

How it stays honest

The methodology sets out the source tiers, the retention rule, the vendor-versus-deployer rule, the freshness policy and the checks the site must pass before every build. The sources page lists every URL. The changelog records every change. The corrections page is the right of reply.

For journalists

Every figure on the site can be cited with its source URL and the date it was checked; the per-service retention table and the vendor-versus-deployer tables are the parts nobody else publishes. The dataset is free to reuse with attribution and a link to the source URLs.

For developers and assistants

The dataset is published at /api/v1/services.json, /api/v1/vendors.json and /api/v1/timeline.json; every entry has an RSS feed; the index, service, vendor and timeline pages register read-only WebMCP tools; and llms.txt summarises the site for assistants. See the agent tools section.
